Directors 4 U
Directors 4 U is an online-based service in which upcoming directors will upload their films or projects they have directed. We hope to partner up with TV production companies and film production companies so that when customers of directors 4 U upload their products, it will then be sent to those companies allowing for their films to be showcased and hire them for a big job in the future. To upload their films, members of Directors 4 U will have to pay a certain fee to upload onto the website depending on the length of the film. The mission statement for Directors 4 U is, giving new filmmakers the chance to shine. I feel that this is a good mission statement as it clearly states what we are trying to do within our business.
To market Directors 4 U, we will use social media as one way to market ourselves. This is a great and free way to let people know that Directors 4 U is available for people to use. Another method we would use is through universities if we partner up with media focused universities we be able to target the young upcoming directors we are trying to attract. Also having a partnership with universities will allow for us to work with students and give workshops on the equipment used when making films or TV shows. Having a partnership with a film studio would be another way to help market Directors 4 U as many people watch films and see their partners on their adverts. This would allow for us to get global marketing, as their film would be shown around the world. Targeting independent TV production companies within the UK is another way in which Directors 4 U could possibly market us as more and more TV companies are looking at independent production companies to make the shows. Meaning that we could hopefully be seen across the country. Directors 4 U will have our own website in which customers can visit and spread through word of mouth. We will also visit radio stations that have a film segment within their shows, this is so we can tell the media world that we are here and ready to help upcoming directors.
For the value proposition, I like to think of Directors 4 U as being the agent of the upcoming directors that want to break through into the industry. This is because we would get them linked in with TV production companies or film studios, who would then look at Directors 4 U so that they can see the work of an upcoming director and see if they would like to work with them in the future. As an upcoming/ new director within the industry, it can be very difficult to get the job you want and hiring an agent to get you jobs can be very expensive too. This means that many new directors may never get the chance to work for a big company such as the BBC. Directors 4 U will act as the agent for those upcoming/ new directors as we will have links within the industry e.g. a partnership with Warner Bros UK. This will give the members of Directors 4 U to get in the industry. This is a gap in the market that we are filling in as there is no other service like this, that give upcoming directors the chance to show their work.
The ideal customer/ target audience for Directors 4 U is young and upcoming directors aged between 21-30. We are targeting this age group, as we want to help the directors who are new to the industry and trying to get the job that breaks them through. I feel that this is a target audience as there is a market there because many people do find it difficult to get the job they want within the industry and Directors 4 U is helping them to archive their goals. However, we would welcome any aged director and help them get in the industry.
As of now, I’m unaware of any other service that provides a service like we do and that is why I feel that Directors 4 U would be very successful, as we are filling in a gap in the market. Through research, I’ve found that there are many websites that give advice on how to become a director but no service that would actually help get in the industry.
Overall I feel that Directors 4 U is a great idea as it fills in a gap that is there in the market as there is no service like this. However, I feel that it would be difficult to get partnerships with film studios and TV production companies and that can determine if Directors 4 U will succeed.
